You may not have been able to visit Putney School of Art and Design during lockdown, but that won’t stop the staff of the iconic school from showcasing the amazing talent it holds.
With funding from the Government’s Department of Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport, Putney School of Art and Design has created this online vessel to show the public what they have been up to in lockdown. The exhibition is comprised of student’s work from their online classes, which has been a huge success over the past year and enabled students to study throughout the pandemic.
Enable Leisure and Culture, who run Putney School of Art and Design, won the grant after bidding for it at the end of 2020. Here for Culture is a Government movement that unites the public, government, and cultural organisations in support of fantastic cinemas, theatres, music venues, museums, galleries, and heritage.
Whether on the global stage or quietly in our own lives, culture inspires, uplifts, comforts, and entertains us. Now, in these challenging times, it’s the Government’s turn to provide a lifeline and show support. The government is #HereForCulture with an unprecedented £1.57 billion of funding coming through on top of the furlough scheme, bounce-back loans, and emergency grants. The public has been #HereForCulture as organisations have innovated online and outdoors.

Belinda Bates, who is the Curriculum Manager at Putney School of Art and Design said:
“We originally planned the work to be exhibited throughout the school in January for the start of our spring term. Subsequently, we found ourselves in the 3rd lockdown with over 50% of the courses going online.
We decided to display the work at the school despite the building being empty as we received numerous emails from students, appreciative that we are continuing to provide a service through the online provision and how PSAD is so valuable to the community. We wanted to support this further by showcasing the talented work of our wonderful students but also to highlight their resourcefulness in continuing to be inspired and creative.”
