Painting with Gouache 3D Campus (All levels)
Learn to use the vibrant and versatile medium of Gouache paint – a medium used by artists such as Matisse, John Piper, Paul Klee and David Hockney.
What The Course is About:
Learn to use the vibrant and versatile medium of gouache paint – a medium used by artists such as Matisse, John Piper, Paul Klee and David Hockney. You will be learn to use gouache techniques and materials, build up your confidence in using the medium and explore the diversity of gouache by taking inspiration from some of the techniques of established gouache artists. You will work from a variety still life subject matter including organic materials, man made objects, fabrics and learn to use gouache paint to create diverse painting effects. You will explore gouache paint's unique properties and be able to create both translucent and opaque surfaces, combining these to make your own responses to contrasting textures You will learn about and explore the importance and power of colour in composition. At the end of the course you will have a created your own series of Gouache paintings.

N.B Classes in 3D Studio 1 and 3D Sculpture Studio are not yet accessible for wheelchair users (Staircase leading to first floor). Please speak to the Admin Team who will advise an alternative course at Oxford Road (lift) or ground floor 3D Campus.
Materials Required:
What to bring to the first session: Designer Gouache paints in primary colours (Magenta, Cyan, lemon yellow) and black and white and ultramarine blue (you may buy a set of paints with more colours if you wish). A sketch book of Watercolour paper 300gsm, NOT A3 size, Pencils 2B, 4B. Erasers. Pencil sharpener. Water colour brushes in a range of small and large sizes, both round and flat ended. Masking tape. Water Pot, Plastic palette.
Previous Experience:
Those with some previous experience of working with either water colour, acrylic or oils who wish to explore a new medium Students who have complete introductory drawing courses, previous gouache courses and those who wish to try their hand at painting. Advanced painters, who would like to try a new medium also welcome.
End of course:
What will I achieve? During the course you will learn gouache techniques and paint from a variety of subject matter. The aim of the course is to help you develop your skill as a painter and for you to create your own series of finished paintings. It is suitable for any students wanting to improve existing skills as well as for beginners. The class offers a supportive environment with assistance and encouragement from your tutor.
