Portrait Drawing (All levels)
This drawing course is ideal for those with some drawing experience who want to concentrate on portraiture, or who are already doing portraiture.
What The Course is About:
The emphasis of the course will be on structure, and ways of understanding and describing portraiture. You won’t be using colour on this course. You will work with directly from a life model and explore different media as useful tools to convey various responses. We will discuss ideas in the group but you will receive one-to-one tuition and instruction. There will be regular class reviews of the work produced. Using the resource of the school library we will look at the work of different artists for guidance.
Materials Required:
Please bring to the first lesson; pencils (2B, 4B), willow and compressed charcoal, putty erasers, sharpeners. Papers of your choice (some papers can be bought at the school shop). Masking tape or clips (drawing boards are supplied).
Previous Experience:
For those with some drawing experience who want to concentrate on portraiture.
End of course:
You will learn to identify the skeletal structure of the head and assess its anatomical proportions. You will learn how to take proportional measurements and judge angles and planes. You will consider facial type, individual proportion, body language, particularity and expression as other vital ingredients in the mix.
