This course will explore a variety of approaches to drawing and painting using a wide variety of materials and techniques, including pencil, charcoal and chalk, pastels and watercolour and acrylic paints. You will be encouraged to draw carefully from direct observation using basic measuring and perspective, both in the studio and, weather permitting, from out and about, gathering visual reference material for later use. You will try out looser, expressive drawing using charcoal, chalk and pastel. In painting you will explore colour mixing and the importance of colour and tone to create lively compositions. The course aims to build confidence in the handling of media and to play with ideas in the creation of exciting and very personal artwork
