February Half Term – 3 Days: Pottery Workshop

This course is aimed at anyone interested in clay and pottery. Experienced potters will be able to work on their own projects while beginners will be introduced to various pottery techniques, and good studio practices.

What The Course is About:

Learn and enjoy the magic of throwing on the wheel or handbuilding, with professional instruction on how to make a range of pottery shapes or a project. These days are suitable for all levels. The course will also provide opportunity to glaze if appropriate.

Materials Required:

For the first lesson please bring a notebook / sketchbook and something to write with; a digital camera or camera phone is useful to record of your work. Basic hand tools can be bought from the school shop but there are also some communal tools available to start with. Materials such as clay, slips and glazes are provided and a charge is made based on the weight of your work prior to firing. You will also need a suitable waterproof apron.

End of course:

The courses will cover a selection of the basic construction techniques: Pinching, coiling, slab building, and working from moulds; and there will be a basic introduction to throwing on the wheel. In addition, you will be given a good grounding in clay preparation, the working properties of clay, different clay bodies, and basic decorating and glazing techniques.
