February Half Term – B&W Darkroom Photography
This course is ideal for beginners who have never experienced creating images in a traditional black and white darkroom before. Students will be introduced to printing photographs and contact sheets from negatives, experimenting with light to create photograms, how to print drawings and sketches, and an introduction to digital negatives.
What The Course is About:
On this taster course, you will be taught the basic skills of using a photographic darkroom and the safe use of chemicals to create a number of images. You will have a demonstration on the proper use of darkroom equipment, and different printing techniques to create traditional black and white photos, or more experimental images combining photograms, digital negatives and film. If you would like to process your own black and white film please let us know in advance.
Materials Required:
What to bring to the first Session: To make photograms bring a range of objects that are opaque and transparent. If you have any 35mm black and white negatives bring them with you, or digital images from your phone or camera that can be turned into digital negatives. Photographic paper is available to buy from the college. This may be time to hunt out your old film camera to use.
Previous Experience:
Suitable for complete beginners who have never used film or taken a photo before as well as seasoned professionals who want to develop and print old school photographs.
End of course:
What will I achieve? You will learn the basic principles of black and white printing, and how to use darkroom enlargers. You will learn how to use black and white chemistry safely, and build a portfolio of photographic images
