If you’d like to create characters and stories, from children’s books to comics this course is for you! Published author/illustrator Sophie Ambrose will help you find your own style, explore different mediums and use your imagination to build ideas, characters and reference material for future projects. Suitable for all levels (with some drawing experience.)

What The Course is About:

Tutor: Sophie Ambrose

This practical but inspiring course will help you create a visual database of characters, creatures and settings to use in future projects. Exercises and workshops will also help you improve and strengthen your drawing and painting skills, working from observation, reference and imagination. We’ll explore emotions, body language, detail, texture and colour, plus story structure, pacing and composition. There’ll be demos and plenty of one-to-one attention and examples of illustrators work to inspire you during this relaxed, friendly class.

This course is for you if:

You’d like to draw believable characters and create stories
You’d like to bring more depth and life to your illustrations
You’d like to have fun experimenting with new ways of drawing and using your imagination

Materials Required:

For the first session, please bring in whatever drawing materials you have, pencils, coloured pencils, pens and paper of your choice. Further materials can be purchased from the school shop at competitive prices.

Previous Experience:

Suitable for: all levels, but some drawing experience would be useful. Ideal as a follow-on from Sophie’s ‘Learn to Draw’ or Intro to Drawing & Colour class, but also useful for illustrators looking to refresh their approach.
