Learn to Draw (All Levels) 3D Campus
This course is aimed at complete beginners who have never drawn or who have not drawn for many years or have no confidence in their drawing and need help and encouragement.
Please note that the Learn to Draw session on Tuesday evening is at our 3D Campus and our Thursday afternoon session is at our Oxford Road site.
What The Course is About:
You will be taught the absolute basics, learning about line, texture and tone as well as how to make a range of marks using various media such as pencil, charcoal, pastel, conte and pen and ink. You will also learn how to assess proportion and will be shown ways of doing this. You will be encouraged to experiment with different styles of working and you will draw from still life ,plants and nature, the human form, landscape as well as architecture and interiors. You will mainly be finding ways of seeing and observing; your tutor will demonstrate methods and you will initially draw from still life and natural forms such as still life, fruit or vegetables. Later on we will try some experimental ways of drawing looking at other artists work for inspiration and ideas for techniques.
Tuesday evening - 3D Campus: Bentley House, 4a Disraeli Road, SW15 2DS (Directly opposite Putney Library). N.B Classes in 3D Studio 1 and 3D Sculpture Studio are not yet accessible for wheelchair users (Staircase leading to first floor). Please speak to the Admin Team who will advise an alternative course at Oxford Road (lift) or ground floor 3D Campus.
Materials Required:
What to bring to the first session: Bring a range of pencils, and charcoal initially. Most of your materials can be bought in the school shop but you will be given a list of materials needed when you join the course.
Previous Experience:
Suitable fore complete beginners who have never drawn or who have not drawn for many years .
End of course:
What will I achieve? You will learn the basic principles of observational drawing and be shown how to interpret visual information. You will have the opportunity to develop your drawing techniques and experiment with a variety of materials. The aim of the course is to help you to develop your observational skills further and build your confidence when interpreting and recording what you see .
