Mixed Media: Painting & Printmaking

The course aims to explore a variety of printmaking and painting processes and combining them to create mixed media original artworks.

What The Course is About:

The course aims to explore the printmaking processes of drypoint as well as monoprinting. Learning about and building confidence in using these processes before extending the work by introducing watercolour washes and sections of acrylic paints to create an original mixed media image.

Materials Required:

What to bring to the first session: For the first few sessions we will explore drawing and drypoint, using pencil and paper. If you have drawing materials; fine liner, pencil, eraser and paper- please bring them. You will then go on to use a transparent printing plate and etching needle which will be required but you can obtain materials as you go along.

General Information: Putney School of Art & Design Art Shop on site: opening hours: 9.45am-10.30am, 1.45pm-2.30pm, 6.30pm-7.15pm. 10% discount from most local art suppliers with PSAD Student Card. Free WIFI with no password to access images. Café and balcony serving hot lunches and homemade cakes. All students are invited to submit one piece of artwork to the annual Student Summer Exhibition there may also be class shows throughout the year. For pottery and printing subjects all students will be given a free mask and gloves at the start of the course. Photocopies and printing from a memory stick at the school: 10p for A4 and 20p for A3.

What will I achieve? You will learn the basic principles of drypoint and monoprinting and be shown how to interpret visual information. During the course you will learn printmaking techniques and how to apply colours to the original prints you will create. The aim of the course is to help you develop your skill as a printmaker & painter and improve your creative skill and thinking. It is suitable for any students wanting to improve existing skills as well as for beginners.
