Portrait Drawing & Painting (All levels)
Portraiture is an art form involving observational, interpretive and expressive skills while trying to capture the ‘essence’ of another human being. Students will be taught how to learn and master these skills while drawing and painting from the model.
What The Course is About:
You will learn the basic principles of observational drawing and painting and be shown how to interpret visual information. You will gain mastery of composition, proportion, perspective and colour mixing while building a personal style using medium or mediums of your choice ranging from graphite, chalk, pen, oil painting, watercolour, dry and oil pastel and acrylics to create a confident, resolved result. The tutor will demonstrate how to get a good likeness and make the picture work, how to measure basic proportions from varying viewpoints, how to mix colours and to portray surfaces, including skin and hair, with conviction.
Materials Required:
Art materials are available for sale at the school including paper by the sheet, pencils, charcoal, putty rubbers and erasers. Please bring an A2 or A3 size paper or a sketchbook and basic drawing materials to your first lesson. As you progress towards painting you will be given advice on suitable media and the range of colours required. Students can work in watercolour, oils, acrylics or drawing and painting medium of their choice. Advice on materials, up to date methods and practical help will be given, in order that you may be able to realise your potential as an artist!
Previous Experience:
The course is suitable for anyone wanting to improve existing skills as well as for Beginners.
End of course:
At the end of the course you will have gained mastery of capturing the likeness, composition, proportion, perspective and colour mixing while building a personal style using medium or mediums of your choice. References to portraiture throughout Art History will be made to inspire and help learners find their own style and artistic expression. The Class offers a supportive environment with assistance and encouragement from your tutor.
