Summer School – 2 Days: Oil Painting (Int/Adv)

This intermediate to advance oil painting course offers the opportunity for you to develop your personal painting style.

What The Course is About:

This intermediate to advance oil painting course offers the opportunity for you to develop your personal painting style. The course will focus on technical explorations (e.g. composition, colour, paint handling, media, surfaces, experimental materials, the different processes of starting and building a painting), with the aim to develop your own style and ideas. Working with a range of primary and secondary sources we will look at how images can be collected and developed. We will discuss the work of both historical and contemporary painters, and consider what we can learn from their processes and ideas in developing our own, individual voice.

Materials Required:

What to bring to the first session: Bring to the first class any drawing materials you possess, Oil Paint: Yellow ochre, Cadmium yellow, Phthalo Blue, French Ultramarine blue, Cadmium Red, Burnt Sienna, Veridian Green and Burnt Umber. Acrylic paint (for priming paper and dry grounds): White, black Thinners: Linseed Oil, Zest -it Brushes: Size 6 filbert bristle, Size 3 round bristle, I inch House painter bristle Small Palette knife spatula Masking tape Tracing paper or grease proof paper for palette 4 x A2 Sheets of cartridge paper ; paper and further items can be purchased from the school shop.

What will I achieve? You will be shown and learn how to interpret visual information and develop initial sources through a range of methods into oil paintings.
